United Way of Hall County envisions that Hall County residents will have improved access to health care and live a healthier lifestyle.

What We Know *

  • At 87%, the 2006 Georgia Healthy Start index for Hall County babies was one of the best in the state.  The index measures three indicators that help determine if a baby will have a successful start in life.
  • Region 2 Department of Public Health reports Hall County has one of the highest obesity and diabetes rates in the state. Obesity and diabetes are leading causes in major health problems.
  • In 2007, Hall County's teen pregnancy rate was 44.2% per 1,000 girls compared to the state rate of 38%. That same year, more than one of every five births to girls age 15-19 was second or subsequent births.  Teen mothers are less likely to complete high school and more likely to live in poverty.
  • The October 2007 Georgia Department of Education student health survey reports that locally, 38% of 12th graders used alcohol and 23% used marijuana in the 30 days prior to the survey.
* This data comes from Region 2 Department of Public Health and the May 2010 Hall LIFE Report. More information can be found at www.hcfcn.org.
